Best YouTube comment tools in 2026: an honest comparison

YouTube Studio, TubeBuddy, vidIQ, CommentShark, Hootsuite and ReplyDial compared on the four questions that matter for comments: does it find what you have not answered, does it write a real answer, can it post without you, and what does it cost. Written by the maker of one of them.

By ·· 6 min read

Short version: for moderation, YouTube Studio is enough and it is free. For keyword research with some comment features on the side, TubeBuddy or vidIQ. For a team working on many social networks from one inbox, Hootsuite. For rule-based automatic replies, CommentShark. For one list of every unanswered comment on your channel with a drafted answer for each, which you approve one by one, ReplyDial. I built ReplyDial, so keep that in mind while reading.

I checked the prices below on 1 October 2026. They will change, so each tool's pricing page is linked. Last updated: 5 October 2026.

The four questions

Most "best YouTube tools" lists compare thirty features. For comments, only four questions matter:

  1. Does it find the comments you have not answered, on the whole channel? Not just "shows you comments". Every tool does that. I mean a list of the comments with no reply from you, on every video, so you can actually clear the backlog.
  2. Does it write a real answer? A ready-made "thanks for watching" is not an answer to "why does my plan show a change every run?".
  3. Can it post without you? If yes, that is a risk for your channel under the spam policy, and a bigger risk for your reputation with viewers. What YouTube actually allows.
  4. What does it cost for one channel?

Side by side

Each tool, honestly

YouTube Studio

What it is: the built-in Comments page. Published and Held views. Filters for response status, questions, keywords, subscriber count and Super Thanks. Blocked words, hidden users and link holding in settings. Short reply suggestions, some written by AI.

Where it is enough: moderation. The Held tab and blocked words catch most abuse and scams before you see them. And the Response status: Unresponded filter is the best hidden feature in Studio. I went through every filter and setting in What YouTube Studio's comment tools can and cannot do.

Where it is not enough: there is no "I have seen this" for comments you decide not to answer, so the list never gets shorter. And the suggestions say thanks, they do not answer.

Price: free. Studio comment help.

TubeBuddy

What it is: a browser extension for keyword research, thumbnails, A/B tests and bulk video edits. Comment tools on the side: comment formatting, a word cloud of your comments, canned responses on every plan, bulk delete and comment export on the Legend plan.

Where it is good: if you already pay for it for SEO, canned responses are a quick way to paste a standard reply, and comment export is useful once a year.

Where it is not: canned responses are templates, and viewers can tell a template. Nothing in it finds your unanswered backlog.

Price: Pro and Legend, with a big discount for yearly billing. TubeBuddy pricing.

vidIQ

What it is: the other extension. Today it is mostly an AI coaching and ideas tool with keyword research and a monthly AI credit limit. Comments are not its job. There is no reply workflow and no unanswered view.

Where it is good: deciding what video to make next.

Where it is not: answering comments. Buy it for the research, not for this.

Price: Free, Boost (about $39/mo or $199/yr) and Max. vidIQ pricing.

CommentShark

What it is: a rules engine for YouTube comments. You create rules like "when a comment asks about X, reply with Y" or "when a comment has a link, remove it". Each rule can run in approval mode, where replies wait in a queue for you to edit and approve, or in autonomous mode, where they post as soon as the rule matches.

Where it is good: the repeat question. If a hundred people a month ask where the discount code is, a rule can answer it.

Where to be careful: autonomous mode. Replies that go out without a person reading them are exactly what YouTube's spam policy calls repetitive, untargeted content. And viewers notice a bot before YouTube does. CommentShark lets you keep every rule in approval mode. If you use it, keep it there.

Price: Free (3 rules, 20 actions a month), Starter $19/mo, Creator $49/mo. CommentShark.

Hootsuite

What it is: a social media management suite. One shared inbox for comments and messages from all the networks you connect, assigning work to team members, scheduling posts, and an AI writing helper.

Where it is good: a team of three answering comments on YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn from one place, with a record of who replied to what.

Where it is not: a single creator. The price is made for agencies, and YouTube is one tab among many. It does not know which of your old videos still get questions.

Price: from $99/mo billed yearly. Hootsuite plans.

ReplyDial

What it is: one inbox with every comment on your channel that has no reply from you, newest first, and any video on demand. An AI draft for each comment in the voice you describe. A Post button that only you can press. Dismissed comments stay dismissed. Spam is flagged, never answered. Viewer requests are collected as video ideas.

Where it is good: a backlog of hundreds of comments across many videos, cleared in sittings of twenty minutes, from your phone. Technical channels where the comment is a question with a real answer.

Where it is not: moderation (use Studio's settings first), and rule-based repeat answers (CommentShark does that). It will not auto-reply. That is a product decision, not a missing feature.

Price: Free (5 drafts, 8 replies a day; first 7 days on Creator limits, no card), Creator $12/mo or $99/yr, Pro $29/mo or $249/yr. Pricing.

Full disclosure: I built it, after nearly seven years of answering comments by hand on my 104k-subscriber tech channel.

How to pick

Whatever you pick, the rule that keeps a channel safe is the same: a person reads every reply before it goes out. Why that is the line.

Free, no sign-in: the unanswered-comments checker counts what is waiting on any public channel's last 20 videos. Run it on your channel before deciding if you need a tool at all.

ReplyDial lists every comment on your channel still waiting for a reply, drafts answers in your voice, and posts only what you approve. Free for 7 days on Creator limits, no card.
