Free tool
YouTube comments exporter
Paste a video link and download its comments as a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets, or as JSON. Public data, no sign-in, nothing is posted.
How it works
- We look up the video through the official YouTube Data API: title, channel and YouTube’s own comment count.
- We read the newest 200 top-level comments and the replies YouTube returns with them (up to five each).
- You download the rows as CSV or JSON. Comment text is exported exactly as written; cells that start with =, + or - are marked as text so a spreadsheet never runs them as formulas.
Costs the tool about 3 YouTube API units per video; results are cached for 24 hours. Developers: the same export, with every comment and every reply, is in our open-source command-line toolkit.
What people do with the file
- Sort by likes to find the questions many viewers share, and pin an answer.
- Filter the text column for “can you make” or “next video”: viewers have written your content calendar.
- Keep a copy of the discussion before unlisting or deleting a video.
- Check a sponsor’s or a competitor’s video: what do viewers actually ask?
If what you really want is to answer the comments, the unanswered comments checker shows how many are waiting on a whole channel.
Questions
- What is in the file?
- One row per comment: comment id, parent id (for replies), type, author, author channel id, text, likes, reply count, date, and a link that opens the comment on YouTube. The CSV opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets with the right characters and emoji.
- How many comments do I get?
- The newest 200 top-level comments on the video, plus up to five replies under each (that is what YouTube's public API returns per comment). For a video with more, the file says so, and signing in to ReplyDial exports every comment on your own videos.
- Does it need my password or channel access?
- No. It reads only public data, the same comments anyone can see on youtube.com, through the official YouTube Data API. Nothing is posted, and nothing is stored beyond a 24-hour cache so a second download of the same video is free.
- Why is there a daily limit?
- YouTube's API gives each project a fixed daily quota. The free tools share a cap of 100 lookups a day so they stay available for everyone. Exporting the same video again within 24 hours does not count.
- Can it export comments from private or members-only videos?
- No. Those are only visible to the channel owner. Sign in to ReplyDial with the Google account that owns the channel to export them.
- Is this allowed by YouTube?
- Yes. Reading public comments through the official API with an API key is exactly what the API is for. The limits above keep the tool inside YouTube's quota and the Developer Policies.
